New smoke outlet panels installed in Merchant Square, London

New Age Glass Ltd were contracted by Maylim Ltd to design, manufacture and install 34 nr prefabricated glazed and unglazed Smoke Outlet Panels for the very prestigious Merchant Square Project in Paddington London.

Using Seves 117 x 117 x 60mm clear glass lenses set into stainless steel reinforced Grade 40 concrete we were able to allow a recess of 30mm from the face of the glass for a granite tile finish to each panel.

Our highly experienced staff were able to manufacture these panels to the smallest of tolerances required by the granite fixers.

Each panel size was individually engineered by our experienced design team and all the calculations provided for approval. We also provided a 1200mm x 1200mm test panel which was tested on site by the LFEPA.

We are proud to announce that the whole project was a complete success and Maylim Ltd are very happy with our performance.

New fire rated glass blocks range

New Age Glass are pleased to announce a new range of fire rated glass blocks, designed to be used in areas where fire risk is a particular concern. All these blocks are tested to DIN 4102/3 or EN 1364/1 in combination with EN1363/1 and assessed to suit the UK market according to BS 476/22.

Most glass block walling is fire resistant, offering around 15 minutes thermal insulation and 60 minutes fire integrity, but where higher safety levels are required this new range provides protection up to 90 minutes thermal insulation and 90 minutes fire integrity.

The full range of fire resistant block includes standard and double thickness blocks in a range of styles and finishes suitable for vertical and horizontal structures.

New Energy Saving Glass Blocks

A huge step forward in technology, the new ‘energy saving’ glass blocks halfs the thermal transmittance of the classic glass block.

This new development in glass architecture makes it possible to design buildings completely built from glass blocks with attention given to safeguarding and protecting the environment and saving energy.

Without changing the glass block characteristics, this improves the performances relating to the reflection and transmission of solar energy in the glass block. The classic glass block is made up of two half-shells containing air without humidity.

This system, patented by Seves, is comparable to a system made up of two floating glass sheets joined together with the interposition of a ‘chamber’ containing air without humidity.

As a result, the glass surfaces increase from two to three and the combined effect of a ‘low emissive’ glass sheet, Argon gas and the three glass surfaces considerably reduces the block’s thermal transmittance value from 2.8 Wm/k to 1.5 Wm/k
